Bennetta a surprise inclusion for the Magic Millions

Jan 01, 2013

Randwick trainer Grahame Begg revealed on Tuesday that his talented filly Bennetta would make the trip to the Gold Coast in the hope of a start in the $1 million Magic Millions 3YO Stakes on Saturday week.

Begg and the filly's connections paid the $275 late entry fee, which closes on Wednesday, on Monday.

Bennetta created a good impression when defeating some talented fillies in the Bowermans Office Furnitures Handicap (1250m) on Saturday at Canterbury.

"We paid the late entry so now we are just hoping we can squeeze into the field," Begg said.

"We said we were going to the paddock but $1 million restricted races don't come along too often in a horse's career and she came through Saturday in great shape so we're off to the Gold Coast.

"It's borderline whether she will get into the field. By my calculations she's around the cut-off point so we'll see what happens."

Bennetta has career earnings totaling $67,100 excluding bonuses which places her 28th in the official order of entry but as many as 12 runners her are unconfirmed starters. A field of 16 will contest the rich contest.

Begg said if Bennetta doesn't secure a start she'll contest the $200,000 Magic Millions Fillies Mares Handicap (1300m) on the same program.

No jockey has been locked in to ride Bennetta at this stage.
