Randwick trainer Grahame Begg has confirmed his dual Group 1 winning mare Secret Admirer has run her last race.

The daughter of Dubawi closed out her carrer with an eye-catching third in last Saturday’s Group 1 Doomben Cup (2000m) behind Beaten Up.

“It’s over,” Begg said. “She’s been a wonderful horse to our stable and is sad to think she won’t walk back through our doors at Randwick.”

Secret Admirer retires the winner of three of her 28 starts. She won the 2011 Epsom Handicap and the 2010 Flight Stakes.

A mark of her consistency is her record in black-type contests. From 26 starts at Stakes level, Secret Admirer won twice with a further 14 placings, including eight at Group 1 level.

“There’s no doubting she was a Group 1 class racehorse,” Begg said. “She was the sort of horse whose racing pattern worked against her but if you look back through her career she raced against the best and was always competetive.

Secret Admirer retires with earnings of $1,443,530.
